Dear Friend:
It is an honor to represent you in Springfield. Despite the challenges faced by the General Assembly during this year's record-breaking overtime session, I was successful in passing legislation that will bring about positive change in the areas of education, healthcare and property taxes.
I am happy to report that during budget negotiations, I helped secure significant increases in state funding for education. Additionally, I was able to pass legislation that will greatly benefit students who receive special education services, and ensure that they make a smooth transition into adult life.
Health was also high on my priority list as we successfully fought to secure a smoke-free Illinois. I also passed several pieces of legislation aimed at improving the healthcare system in our state through reform, transparency and enhanced care.
The topic of property tax relief received considerable attention during this legislative session, and I fought hard to protect the pocketbooks of Cook County homeowners.
In an effort to promote real budget reform, I also sponsored a series of ethics bills. I believe it is extremely important that taxpayers know how their money is being spent and that there is accountability to ensure that state government runs ethically.
I will continue to work to resolve education funding, property tax relief and mass transit issues. I will be sure to keep you informed through my e-newsletter as these issues progress in Springfield. If you have any questions concerning these or any other issues, don't hesitate to contact me at (847) 724-3233 or coulson@earthlink.net .
Sincerely,

State Representative – 17th District
